Preparing for civil service exams and training for employment through hybrid classes

18 October 2021

ADAMS Formación is an academy and publisher that welcomes more than 90,000 students every year, training for civil service exams, Training for Employment, professional courses and corporate training. It has always been known for adapting to its students' needs, which is why this year it has introduced hybrid or blended classes in its classrooms, allowing in-person and remote learning to take place simultaneously, wherever the student happens to be.

The company's history is an ode to adaptation: it was founded in 1957 publishing annotated legal texts and soon moved into correspondence training. In the early 1960s it added classroom teaching, and for the last 20 years it has also offered online training through its own virtual campus, allowing it to give professional qualifications to more people.

With advice and integration from Global TV and supply from Charmex, in summer 2019 it began modernising its technology, bringing in Clevertouch V interactive monitors and their mounts. Then, during 2021, it responded swiftly to the circumstances by adopting a hybrid model in its face-to-face classes, adding professional video conferencing with Poly Studio bars to make it easier for teachers to explain and for students to understand.

And to go one step further, it also added 43-inch Samsung monitors which, positioned along the side of the classroom on Traulux wall mounts, allow the students in the room and the teacher to see all the students joining remotely via video conference.

“Years ago we had our first digital whiteboards, which needed calibrating. Everything has changed a great deal since then and, of course, we have used overhead projectors too. Today we have 100 interactive monitors installed and more than 50 classrooms already equipped for hybrid training”, explains Juan José Taguas, Director of Information Systems at ADAMS.

As Ana Iglesias, Academic Director at ADAMS, points out, this new model “will be a challenge when it comes to ensuring the student's learning experience is the same wherever they are, giving them access to all the training tools at our disposal”.

The solution designed for ADAMS Formación is intended to let remote students follow the class as if they were in the room, and it is used in classes preparing for civil service exams as well as in Training for Employment and corporate training. Thanks to the Poly Studio video conferencing bars, which have several microphones in a line array, everyone can hear and be heard clearly throughout the session. With its NoiseBlock technology, Poly intelligently removes distracting background noise. And Acoustic Fence blocks out conversations outside the defined space.

This system keeps the teacher or speaker in frame at all times thanks to the automatic presenter tracking function, which can be used without installing any additional driver or software. That way, every participant sees the relevant details of the session, including facial expressions and body language.

Students outside the classroom can also be seen during the class on the 43-inch Samsung monitors installed along one side of the room.

And to improve interaction between teachers and all students, wherever they are, Clevertouch V 4K interactive monitors are used. With their easy-to-use touch panel, high-precision technology and software with free applications, they bring collaboration into the classroom.

For example, LYNX Whiteboard is a cloud-based program included with the monitors, where activities and presentations can be created from multiple sources, from anywhere.

In the opinion of Juan José Taguas, “the solution is very versatile and adapts to different ways of teaching. The internet connection from the interactive monitor's whiteboard gives access to content and images, which has made things easier for students to understand”.

“We can highlight the improvement in the teaching and learning process, since (this equipment) helps hold the students' attention for longer. In fact, the students themselves say the class is more entertaining and dynamic.”, adds Ana Iglesias, Academic Director at ADAMS.

ADAMS Formación currently has a staff of more than 400 professionals across ten centres in Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Coruña, Ourense and Santiago) and one in Mexico City.
