Hybrid or blended classes, in which some students attend virtually and others in person in the classroom, have become a common alternative in schools, universities, academies and colleges. To help these centres, the distributor Charmex has presented a new version of its integrated solution for this kind of teaching: a three-in-one kit based on the Chrome OS cloud operating system and aimed at Google Workspace users.

A computer, an interactive monitor and a video conferencing bar
The Charmex solution consists of a ChromeBox device (a Chrome OS computer in a small box), an interactive monitor and a video conferencing bar.

At the heart of the solution is the CBx2 ChromeBox from the US company CTL, equipped with an Intel Celeron 5205U processor and 4 GB of RAM. It can handle 4K content and its specifications make it ideal for use with interactive monitors within the Google Workspace and Google Workspace for Education ecosystems. It also gives access to the Google Play store thanks to its GMS certification.

The interactive monitor Charmex proposes for this kit is from the Traulux brand: the TLM80-1 series, available in three sizes (65, 75 and 86 inches). Fitted with 4K LED panels, the displays are made of metal and support up to 40 simultaneous touch points. During the class, teachers can also add annotations, resize objects or use tools such as freehand cropping and the colour cloner (pen and whiteboard background).

Although the range includes a wall mount, the SMMI-LINE-VC mobile stand is available as an option, making it easy to move the displays thanks to its four wheels (two of them with a safety brake). This mobile stand also has a mechanism for easy adjustment to the desired height, a cable organiser and a height-adjustable top tray for a video conferencing camera.

The Poly Studio USB auto-track 4K camera video conferencing bar, which connects to the ChromeBox via USB, has several microphones in a line array and the ‘Noise Block’ noise cancellation system: it picks up voices from up to 4.5 metres away and removes distracting background noise.

It also offers several viewing modes and tracks the teacher in close-up, although it can be left on a fixed shot too. If a conversation takes place, it can be set to show both speakers at the same time. As the camera on this video conferencing bar is not built into the monitor's frame, it can be placed wherever is most suitable in the classroom according to each room's needs.

A video tutorial on setting up the kit
The Charmex team has prepared the following video tutorial explaining how to set up the ChromeBox with the interactive monitor and get the most out of it.
