LED stages

An LED stage integrates video surfaces as backdrops, side screens or other elements of the stage design. These displays show visual content, live images and animations that accompany the performance. Their configuration is adapted to the stage design, the dimensions of the venue and where the audience is.

LED displays for concerts let you magnify the artists, make it easier to follow the performance from distant areas and create dynamic stage design. The choice of pixel pitch and resolution for a concert LED display depends on the distance of the audience, the size of the display and the detail of the content. Pixel pitch is the spacing between pixels: the smaller it is, the more pixels fit into the same surface. The total resolution is calculated from the pixels of the cabinets that make up the display and must be taken into account when preparing the content and sizing the control system.

An LED display for open-air concerts must be designed for outdoor use, with protection against water and dust, brightness suited to the ambient light and operating conditions compatible with the environment. The mounting system, wind loads and the safety of the structure must also be checked. For temporary events, choose a solution designed for frequent set-up and take-down and verify the specifications of the complete configuration.

Modular LED displays let you configure stage backdrops, side surfaces and compositions of different sizes and proportions. The possibilities depend on the dimensions of the cabinets, their locking systems and the mounting configurations supported. To create curves or angles, use a system designed for those geometries and adapt the content to the final layout of the displays.

For concerts, plan the output resolution and latency, especially when the artist is shown on screen while performing.

When filming a concert LED display, consider the refresh rate, the camera settings and the configuration of the control system. Shutter speed can cause banding, while the relationship between the LED grid and the sensor can produce moiré. It is worth testing with the cameras, positions and settings planned for the production.

An LED display designed for rental use can be set up and taken down for use at different concerts and events. Its modular structure lets you adapt the size and format within the configurations supported by the manufacturer. At each set-up, check the structure, power supply, control system and content, and make sure the model suits indoor or outdoor use according to the venue.
